Outlines?

I need to put text on top of pictures and am hoping that PDF:API has 
the ability to do outlines (basically white outline around black text). 
Has anyone seen this option? 

If it isn't in there the only other thought I had was, if doing a white 
outline, to write the text 1 pixel above and to the left in white, then 
again 1 pixel down and to the right then the text in black over it. Any 
thoughts?
