I figured out the cause of my previous problem (which actually had
nothing to do with the module but rather with SSL negotiation and the
Android Download Manager) but now I have run into another one that
appears to be at least somewhat related to how the module generates PDFs.
My script first loads a PDF that I created with Illustrator as a
template then places images, text, and simple graphics on it based on
data in a database before streaming the result back to the browser
requesting it. This all works perfectly fine on a PC and in iOS and
even when the PDF is loaded into Acrobat Reader on Android. However, I
will need to be able to send the PDF to a network printer from an
Android tablet. For security reasons we do not want to send the PDF to
a cloud based solution like Google CloudPrint so that is not an option.
I have been looking for a printing solution that is readily available
that we can recommend that will work with Android. HP ePrint seems
really close. HP ePrint will open the PDF but all that it shows in it's
preview is the original PDF that was loaded as the template without any
of the other content that was added by the script. It also does not
print the content when it is actually sent to the printer. The content
is obviously there in the file as it is displayed properly when opened
by Acrobat Reader. I have opened the file in other PDF apps on the
tablet and they also don't display the content. Furthermore I have
attempted to replicate the issue in HP ePrint on iOS and the iOS version
doesn't have the same problem. I have spoken to HP support about the
issue and provided them with one of the PDFs that was generated to see
if they can find the problem in the app but who knows if anything will
come from that or not. Does anyone have any ideas about what could
cause this or anything that could be done to address this issue? Could
it possibly be something to do with specifying a specific PDF version
(something that I have not done) when it's generated or something like that?
