I think so.  I've got Template::Plugin::MultiMarkdown installed and I call
it in my templates

[% USE String %]
[% USE MultiMarkdown %]

in header.inc

Then

[% FILTER multimarkdown %]

just before the mmd part of the template.

The new version of mmd lives in /usr/local/bin and reports version as

==> multimarkdown -v
peg-multimarkdown version 3.6
