* Perl at large.

Conference news first, and there's a host of it. First, don't 
forget submissions for OSCON/TPC7 are due THIS SATURDAY! Get your 
idea hats on and get writing!

Second, proposals are welcome from those interested in hosting 
YAPC::Europe 2004. So far my very own Belfast.pm has expressed 
interest; maybe your local group might want to put together a 
proposal? Send an informal application to:

Copenhagen Perl Mongers are planning to host a Perl Workshop 
similar to the German Perl Workshop; this is likely to be a 
two-day workshop of presentations, BOFs, and social events on 
26-27th April, gathering together Perl Mongers, Denmark-based 
BSD and Linux users groups, and other interested parties. Mail 
the Mongers if you're inspired to speak at this event:

And finally, YAPC::Japan has died and been reborn as "Lightweight 
Languages Sunday," in a similar vein to the recent P3P (Python, 
Perl, PHP, Parrot) conference held in Taiwan. We hope to bring 
you notes from the Taiwan conference in the weeks to come, and 
the Japan conference will be sometime in April.

What's been happening in Perl 6 this week? Well, Dan Sugalski has 
made an interesting bet; Leo Toetsch has been trying his hand at 
designing the internals; Miko O'Sullivan wants per-thread 
summaries of design discussions. Meanwhile, back in Sebastopol...

I expect most people reading have, at some point in their lives, 
installed a couple of Perl modules from CPAN; everyone knows "perl 
Makefile.PL; make; make install." Fortunately, few know the true 
horror that goes on to make that possible on the wide variety of 
systems Perl supports, and even fewer know that there could be a 
better way. Dave Rolsky introduces Module::Build, a smoother, 
gentler way to get modules installed.
