I know my agreement with you on this point counts for naught but I too  
find it bothersome to have to constantly remove private addresses from  
the To: and CC: fields and to have to move the lists's address to the  
To:

IMO what constitutes "normal" mailing list behaviour is debatable.   
there are any number of lists out there that do the more expedient  
thing (if not the "right" thing).

seems to me joining a mailing list carries the implicit intention of  
conversing across the list, thus replying to the list should be the  
default behaviour and opening private dialogue should require a  
special effort.

incidentally, I did always mean to request that a prefix be added to  
the Subject header of this like, as is done with most other lists e.g.  
[POE] Re: ... as that makes it easy to file mail into a special box (I  
know, I can create a rule that defines that if _any_ of the To: Reply- 
to: Cc: or Bcc: contain [email protected] then file away, but it would be  
much easier to rely on the subject.  aside from that it's visually  
easier to deal with)
