That's actually the reason I didn't define rotations in the original post. It lets the server 
define what a rotation is. That's also the reason why the server sends diffs rather than 
'move the + piece left'. If we don't have these restrictions server developers have the 
licence to define their own set of pieces or their own rotation methods.

The networking protocol does need to be defined carefully so that clients can talk to 
the server.
