One of my goals for ZooZ (a Perl/Tk GUI builder I'm working on) is to write out projects in xml format instead of some arbitrary format I made up. Then, they would look almost exactly like what you have, but will also contain more info like packing options, etc ... Is it easier? For parsing by another program, yes.
