Paste to Text and Entry producing STDERR message

I'm running perl v5.8.0 with Tk version 804.025 on a Dell with RHEL WS 
release 3. Each time I try to paste (via middle mouse button click) into 
an Entry or Text widget I get the following message on standard error:

Notify sel=PRIMARY target=UTF8_STRING type=UTF8_STRING win=85d6dc0 
'ClipWindow'

This only happens if I'm pasting something selected from outside the Tk 
application, e.g. from an xterm.

Everything works fine but the messages are annoying and may be causing 
us some problems with some of the ways we launch our Tk applications.

Is there a simple way of turning off these messages?
