Format of tkIcons.* contents ?

I was playing w/ Tk::ToolBar recently, and downloaded/added a bunch
of add'l themes. I'd like to grab some of the images for use
in web pages, but I can't figure out what the binary format
of the images is (I assume the tkIcons file content is either mime64 or
just uuencode). Are they XPM ? BMP ? Something else ? Tk::Photo won't
tell me (via cget(-format)). My only other option is to write
a hybrid TK + GD app to read the Tk::Photo object pixel by pixel and
transfer to a GD object so I can output in a known format.

Any pointers much appreciated,
