Getting the text from a Text widget embedded in a Canvas Widgets

I have a text which I put into a canvas widget with $canvas->create('text', I select it using $canvas->select and get also from $canvas->type "text" as selected element.
Now I want to change the text , how can I achieve this ?
Or also read out the text I selected.
