Dear all,

I just verified that the Perl Tk (latest from official CPAN), which I compi=
led
on Solaris 8 with gcc-4.1.2 on top of perl-5.8.8 works on Solaris 10 (Sparc=
) -
it does! All tests pass OK.
The configuration includes Xft, libfontconfig, libfreetype, libpng, libjpeg,
etc., all quite recent versions from their official download sites.

I suggest you try with the "official" X libraries supplied with Solaris 10,
which you can find in /usr/openwin/(include|lib) - you may need to tweak
your compile flags for -I/usr/openwin/include and the link flags for
-L/usr/openwin/lib -R/usr/openwin/lib to make sure your Perl Tk is
accessing the "official" libraries, and not something someone installed
in e.g. /usr/lib.

Hope this helps,

Marek

My thanks to you all for your help and suggestions. The good news it
that there seems to be nothing wrong with the Tk libraries.
The bad news is that there is definitely something wrong with my X
libraries.

I'll try linking into a different set of libraries as Philip suggests
here and see if I can persuade it to work that way.

I have compiled and used it without issue.

Here is my environment, I hope it helps.

setenv PATH
${OLD_PERL_PATH}/bin:${ORACLE_HOME}/bin:${MYSQL_BIN}:/apps/jdk_1.4.2_13/
bin:/usr/sfw/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/ccs/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/ucb:/usr/dt/b
in:/usr/openwin/bin

setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH
/usr/sfw/lib:/usr/lib:/usr/openwin/lib:/usr/ucblib:/cots/motif/lib:/usr/
dt/lib:/pub/X11R5/lib:/apps/jdk_1.4.2_13/java/lib:${ORACLE_HOME}/lib32:$
{MYSQL_INC}:${MYSQL_LIB}

I wonder if it's my /pub/X11R5 that is allowing mine to work. It is kind
of a remnant from past builds that I have never tried removing since
everything works fine for me.

It seems that there are a number of PASS reports for Solaris 10. See

http://bbbike.radzeit.de/~slaven/cpantestersmatrix.cgi?dist=3DTk%20804.028
;maxver=3D;reports=3D1;os=3Dsolaris;sort=3Dosvers;sort=3Daction

You can also try the brand new developer version 804.028_500.

    Slaven
