Another suggestion: how about we switch to always uploading a dev
release to gather some CPAN Testers reports, before blessing a stable
release?  In this case, we'd go with 1.71_01 or similar, then assuming
there are no showstoppers after a week or so, release it unchanged
(except for version numbers) as 1.72.

That would effectively mean that even numbers are stable releases, and
odd numbers are dev releases.
