it looks like you had 2.7.8 and then installed 2.6.26,

I would check your perl library binary with 'ldd' to check where it's looking for the C library, if you don't have control over the /usr/lib directory, you can create your own under ~/lib/ and have the links set there properly, then it's just a matter of setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH to $HOME/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH

you could also re-compile and in stall XML::LibXML and specifying the version you want to use directly before compiling/linking.
