Initial tries with Pike

Hello.

Last december I found Pike by the first time, wrote some little programs
in it and I liked a lot its nice combination of high-level language,
simplicity and powerful features. 

Recently I have been trying the language more deeply and I'm considering
it for some projects, for example command-line tools and text-based
games.

I know v8.0 release 1956 is available, but at the moment I use v8.0
release 1738 as currently provided by Debian 12.9.

I have several doubts about Pike which I was not able to solve with the
documentation.  I will consult every one of them apart.
