Hi Mark,
Your concerns about the duplication of effort of
pursuing both Parrot and APR and the possible risks
associated with using Parrot are certainly
understandable.

My understanding is that Parrot will be the runtime
environment for Perl 6, so I doubt that development
will stall. In addition, there are a number of very
sharp and committed people hard at work on Parrot at
the moment.

Perhaps someone on the parrot development team
(perl6-internals mailing list?) could lend some
insight into the appropriateness of Parrot as compared
to APR for Prothon. 

The immediate availability of the APR is very
appealing and perhaps development of (at least early
versions of) Prothon should proceed using this
library. When Parrot  has matured further (and the
trade-offs are more apparent), perhaps the issue can
be revisited.
