Hi Mark,
Since you are the creator, driving force, and principal coder 
behind Prothon, you have to be excited about the project and its 
'coolness factor'.

Will .Net be essential in order for users to adopt Prothon? If so, 
and if the popularity of the language is important to you, the 
answer to your conundrum is clear. If .Net is not essential to the 
adoption, then it seems to me that the first implementation of the 
language can follow the path you are currently pursuing. If 
Prothon picks up a head of steam, a .Net implementation can follow 
(analogous to cPython and Jython). I think it's too much to expect 
the first release of a language to be the 'be-all, end-all'.
