I think this is Shu Fai's point... if lm checked whether an na.omit object were passed instead of just blindly applying na.omit again, then the information would not get lost. Having na.omit work cumulatively could also make this process flow more naturally... it doesn't feel obvious to me that repeatedly calling na.omit needs to lose the attribute.
