re: File compression

The Unarchiver is fantastic. Use that and forget about everything else (to decompress items).

 

To compress, files / folders, use the macOS built-in application; select the files, then right-click in it/them and send the result.

 

I use The Unarchiver every day ;)

   I exchange with a friend files/folders of sizes of the order of 10/30 MB. They get compressed out of my will and my friend needs sometimes to use The Unarchiver to decompress them. They get compressed by my Mail system in a different .zip format (.cpgz). 2-clicking them generates a new file with extension .zip. Endless----
   This decompressor does not seem easy to use (2 useless dialogs before a plausible one). 
   My Mail system decides the compression, but if I start with Stuffit I get the same thing. 
   Thus what are the rules/decisions of this compression ?
