    Those two lists are a nightmare of spam.  

There should be essentially no spam coming through on those lists for
quite a while now.  Looking at the archives

http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-sather/

The last spam I see was in March 2006, which is around the time we were
dealing with this throughout all the GNU mailing lists.

There have been only a handful of real messages posted since then on
either list, but you might want to glance through anyway ...

    solution I know of to this is to make them member-only lists.  

Happily, there are better alternate solutions, which have already been
implemented :).
