Thank you!

It is very interesting and  cutting edge.

I also enabled code completion and some other do-dads in this image and am learning to use them.

The Morphic has really come a long, long way and I appreciate the work you folks put into it.

Hi Timothy,

It's called "interactive print-its" and can also be disabled in the preferences if you don't like it. :-)

We introduced this feature because we noticed that people sometimes would do a print-it and afterward want to take a closer look at the result in an inspector or explorer. Without interactive print-its, you would have to reselect the expression and perform
another inspect-it, which evaluates the same code again, and in some cases, the former result might not even be reproducible (imagine the expression being something like aDictionary removeKe: #plonk). With interactive print-its, you can simply click on the
result afterwards without re-evaluating it. Also works in the evaluator panes of inspectors, debuggers, and so on. :-)

The downside, though, is that selecting text in editors with print-its might feel a little bit less intuitive. Also, editors now can contain dangling object references that might be harder to spot.

Hope that helps & you like it! Further feedback is always welcome. :-)

Best,

Christoph

Subject: [squeak-dev] What's all the blue stuff in the workspace?

Hi folks

thanks for all your work..not a complaint, just old dog new trick syndrome...

 I am on ...

/home/wm/usr/src/smalltalk/Squeak7/shared/DOC.image

Squeak6.1beta

latest update: #23787

Current Change Set: Doc

Image format 68533 (64 bit)

Preferred bytecode set: SistaV1

and in a workspace I do a print-it...

PEGMarkdownActor methodDict values

    select: [:m | m pragmas notEmpty] {(PEGMarkdownActor>>#ATXHeading:text: "a CompiledMethod(2662642)") . (PEGMarkdownActor>>#MD: "a CompiledMethod(2394200)") . (PEGMarkdownActor>>#HeadingSection:body:subsections: "a CompiledMethod(3367430)") . (PEGMarkdownActor>>#Paragraph:
 "a CompiledMethod(618544)")}

and the results are in blue...the "blue stuff" in the email title..

If the workspace is active, and I hover over the "blue stuff", it becomes underlined (in blue, of course) . I click it, an Array inspector appears....

its kind of cool, un-expected, but cool.

What is the idea here? What should I expect?

Thank you for your time and hard work..the UI has become very fast

 cordially
