Just to fill-in on my whining about them directory structure, I downloaded three varieties to check whether I’m deluding myself or not. This is what I found -

From squeak home page via the first link of ‘Linux (ARMv8)’
Loads ‘Squeak6.0-22148-64bit-202312181441-Linux-ARMv8.tar.gz’
This contains
/bin/
	*.so + main executable
/shared/
image, changes & sources, locale subdirectories (empty?), release notes
Squeak.sh - seems to be version that checks for architecture & bit length etc

From ‘OpenSmalltalk VMs (latest, fast)’ link on homepage
Provides ‘squeak.cog.spur_linux64ARMv8.tar.gz’
Just the VM stuff
/bin/
spur64 - shell script that does a simple & direct run of the vm
/lib/
	/squeak/
		/{version number stuff}/
			*.so & main executable

All-in-One
Squeak shell & bat file
/Squeak{version verbiage}/
	/Contents/
		/_CodeSignature/
		/MacOS/
		/Linux-arm64/
			- same structure as ‘OpenSmalltalk VMs (latest, fast)’
		/Linux-x86+64/
			- same again
	/Resources/
	/Windows-x86_64/
	Info.plist

So *two* different layouts not the three I thought. Still a cause for confusion though. My preference would be to have a hybrid where we have the /{version number stuff}/ so we can have multiple versions conveniently, along with the clever shell script that handles finding proper VM for any image.

Also when looking at the files.squeak.org directory I see some confusion about which directory is getting the updates
- 6.1alpha has latest version as 23704 2026-03-27?
- 6.1beta has only 32bit since 23713 2026-04-11 and nothing after 2026-05-29
- 6.1rc1/2 show nothing
- Nightly has nothing since 2026-05-29
- current_development has nothing after 2026-03-27
Something broken?
