*Strongtalk Project Status Report*

Hi everyone,

Here is a quick status report on what is going on:

- I'm sorry for the long silence; I'm working on this part time and
have been doing a lot of learning (i.e. Subversion, hosting, legal
issues, etc.), not having dealt with an open source project before.  I
need to get all the basics set up before everyone starts pounding me
with questions, changes, etc.  Thanks for your patience.

- We're just about ready to do the real project kickoff.  Hopefully
tommorrow, but definitely by the end of the week.

- The discussion groups, hosting, etc. will be on Google.  If you
don't have an account on Google, now is the time to get one so that
everyone is ready to move over from this discussion group in a few
days when the kick-off happens.  At that point, this discussion group
will go into archive mode, and all discussion will move to the Google
group "Strongtalk-general".  "Strongtalk-commit" will be for
Subversion commits.  We may spin out a separate
"Strongtalk-development" group for more detailed development
discussions if needed, but it may not be needed.  Don't start posting
over there yet; I want to do the switch-over at the same time as the
kickoff in a few days.

- The subversion repository is almost ready, but there have been some
issues that I've had to work with Google Code admins on that I'm not
sure are straightened out yet.  Unfortunately, they have not been as
responsive as I hoped on everything, so that's been a holdup, but
hopefully they will get things up to speed over there soon, since they
are just getting started too.  Thanks to Robert Larson for helping me
over some newbie issues.

- Dan Ravicher at the Software Freedom Conservancy has been advising
me on legal issues.  We need to get that absolutely straight before we
can start integrating contributions into the code base, so we don't
run into copyright or patent issues later.  We may be joining the
Software Freedom Conservancy, which would provide the project with at
least some legal representation and liability protection.  If anyone
has any experience or advice to share about them, please let me know.
