tests for VM?

Is there a set of tests for the VM that check it (or at least key parts) for correct operation? I imagine it would be pretty easy to break something in the compiler, decompiler, garbage collector, or some such without realizing it. What do the VM developers use to check that they haven't broken anything with their changes and generally check the VM for correctness?
