We haven’t done much at all with WSL at GemTalk Systems. Here is our current consensus on it:

“WSL 1 translated Linux API calls to Windows API calls and had some problems. WSL 2 runs a Linux kernel in a VM so should be as complete as any VM running a Linux distribution. My recollection is that I've run GemStone successfully but I don't have it up right now so can't confirm it...”

nothing really wrong with Mongo, but if you are going to model OO Gemstone is better

I have to double check if one can run Gemstone under WSL now , there were issues before

Hi, Charles,

I use an approach close to the Glorp one. The only difference is that I use my own ORM I started developing before glorp existence, on the old Smalltalk/V ,and moved it to VisualSmalltalk, VW and also c# ... being homegrown, it follows perfectly my needs.

 What's wrong with Mongo?

Happy Easter

BTW: porting to c#, a long time ago, made it really clear the number of constraints that a statically typed language imposes on your code, and the beauty of Smalltalk. But customers wanted c#....

Assuming that Gemstone is already a candidate, although that case I would be doing it thru a web interface which needed further development for my purposes, what would people here do for persistence ?

Plain old EXDI to an RDMS ?

Glorp ?

or the MongoDriver which I see has at least been updated to 4.4.8 ?

from I"m using it from VW perspective what would be better i.e. for a brand new app ?

Any other suggestions?

thanks
