gcc, and line count in interactive interpreter

This is my first post here, hi. 

Firstly, I at last managed to build 110.44 on Debian sarge.  It involved
installing cpp-2.95 and changing CPP = definitions in a number of
places.  I can send details if still relevant.

Second, after I played with the interpreter for a while, I noticed that
it counts lines cummulatively for the purpose of error messages.  That
is, if I copy an entire file with 100 lines and it has a syntax error on
line 50, then I do it again, the second time line reported is 150.  This
is pretty inconvenient.  Is there any way to reset the line count to 0,
maybe with something in the Compiler structure?
