device not configured error

I have an application which talks to the serial port.

As of version 110.58 I am getting the following error while the  
program is running at, what appears to be, unpredictable intervals:

uncaught exception SysErr [SysErr: Device not configured [nxio]]
   raised at: <writebuf.c>
              stdIn:143.53

This program runs all day.  If I get this error and then restart it,  
it will work find for some (long) time and then error again.

Does anybody know what this might be referring to ?

I haven't gone back to try 110.57 yet, but I am quite sure I never  
saw this under 110.57.
