CM questions

A few things I haven't been able to decipher from the CM manual.  If you 
have any ideas, let me know.  Thanks!

1. Is there a way to have CM.make/ml-build invoke some pre/post code 
when building some foo.cm?  There is the setup parameter for the sml 
class, but that would appear to only apply to a single file.

2. Is there a way to get sml/CM to behave like just about any other 
compiler whereby I can compile each file individually, and then link, 
from another build tool?  There is ml-makedepend, but this seems to only 
generate the information that make or some other tool could use to 
determine when it should run ml-build.
