Thanks for the trace; unfortunately it doesn't point out the source  
of the problem, but I do
suspect that the size of the literals may have something to do with it.

I assume that the string literals are the trace messages needed to  
implement the traceback.

Have you been able to reproduce this error on any system other than  
cygwin?  I'll try my Intel
Mac when I get home, since perhaps it is an intel-specific problem.
