I would tend to prefer the current extdefs/*.kbs structure, because  
it is easier to manage when this grows to cover a larger set of  
extensions.

Very interesting ideas though, such as explicit different names for  
static versions and the way kbs.tcl can boot as a shell script and  
later run as tcl script (reminds me a bit of genkit).

Cool.  The other important platform to verify would be mingw/win32, IMO.
