I have read quickly this post, so may be I'm wrong.
But I remember there is a problem with "<>-" when try to import OMG XMI (UML2).
They were reversed.

Hope it help you. 
Otherwise, try your new class in UML1 & UML2 (I haven't use GC). It could avoid 
some problem in futur.
