RE: ArgoUML can not read an old zargo file.

To address some of the meta-issues:

We don't place any limits on how old a project can be to be supported.  Our
goal is to be able to open anything that was created with ArgoUML.

Bugs which effect preservation of model/design data receive the highest
priority treatment.

We encourage creation of issues in the issue database even if you're not
100% sure it's a bug.  It allows easier tracking and followup.
