This is the first report I've heard of anything like this.  The most likely
possibility, by FAR, is that you actually downloaded and ran 0.22, but it
was mislabeled at the download site.  What was the URL that you downloaded
from?

As far as tutorials go, there's a tour of the user interface at
http://argouml.tigris.org/tours/, although I'm not sure how current it is.
There are task specific tutorials for:
