If you are using version 0.24, you cannot do that.
In next version, 0.26, this is a setting that you can save in the
project or set it as the default for all your projects. You can do
that by using the Diagram Appearance tab at the File->Project
Properties or Edit-> Settings respectively.

You can download the beta here:

Please do a backup of your project before using the beta.
IMHO 0.26 will be the more stable release of ArgoUML ever, but it is a beta yet.
