Illegal argument on attribute type combobox when using Profiles

I am trying to use a "common model" with multiple other models via the Profiles feature. I have created a common model, exported it as an xmi file and then open up another model and load it as a profile. The profile loads, but whenever I click on the type combobox to see a list of types for a class attribute I get the following error in the log file:

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: illegal argument - namespace: Expression$Impl  ID: 10-17-18-30--1b8700f:12b21d8166b:-8000:0000000000003263  MID: 10-17-18-30--1b8700f:12b21d8166b:-8000:000000000000030E  OPCKG: 10-17-18-30--1b8700f:12b21d8166b:-8000:000000000000199F type: interface org.omg.uml.foundation.core.Classifier

If I don't load the profile I am able to see the list of types. This is my first attempt to use Profiles, maybe I am missing an extra step in creating my xmi file.
