You might check if NewsMonster - an open source news, weblog, and
RSS aggregator running inside Mozilla and developed in Java, JavaScript,
XUL & friends - includes an updated package.

As far as I remember the author - Kevin "Burtonator" Burton and a
friend have started a Java umbrella project on modev.org. See
http://java.mozdev.org

   The blurb states:

Turn Java into a first-class citizen of the Mozilla/XUL platform.
This will enable developers to build applications where a Java backend
can be used to interact with a Mozilla/XUL front-end, combining the
power of Java's server libraries with the interactivity and user
interface capabilities of Mozilla.

Unfortunately, as far as I can tell both projects, that is,
NewsMonster and the Java mozdev.org projects are orphans as Kevin Burton
and Brad GNUberg are busy with their new startup Rojo. See http://rojo.com

As an alternative you might check out "pure" emerging Java solutions
such as MozCreator XUL Browser @ http://xulbrowser.sourceforge.net or
any of a dozen others such as Sulu, Luxor, LUX, etc.

Another alternative might be to embed Mozilla as a Java widget. See
the JRex project online @ http://jrex.mozdev.org

Let us know your findings if you investigate Mozilla XUL and Java
interop issues further.
