Summary: Upgrade from 1.1.0.7 to 1.2.x.x - unable to view any objects

Initial Comment:
I have twice tried to upgrade from my working 1.1.0.7 installation to 1.2.x.x but, each time, I have found that after logging in, I am able to see the tree in the left-hand side of the page, but no information appears in the main panel and many menu items are missing.

Previously, with 1.1.x.x, I never had to set anything specifically in config.php for this to work. Is there some extra step I need to perform in 1.2.x.x to get it to work with OpenLDAP? Do these later releases support OpenLDAP 2.3.43?

OpenLDAP 2.3.43
Apache 2.2.9
PHP 5.1.6
Centos 5.2 x64

Steps to reproduce:

1. Unpack PLA distro
2. In config directory, copy config.php.example to config.php
3. Link to apache folder
