Initial Comment:
My OpenLDAP server is configured without SASL (for now) and setting sasl_auth to true or false in config.php creates an error.  I marked it in my config file, just in case.

$servers->setValue('server','sasl_auth',false); // causes "Function error called incorrectly [ERROR: Setting a index [server,sasl_auth] that isnt predefined.]"
