Downloaded version 1.2.2 from Sourceforge after reading Debian Security Advisory DSA-2333-1.
Copied configuration from 1.2.1.1 installation.
Browsed to root:

I am also seeing this error.
Server is a Gentoo install, so not Debian specific. 

Verified via IE and Chrome.

Cleared cookies and session cache, nothing changed.

>From what I know of PHP, $_SESSION should always exist. If it doesn't it
has been explicitly unset somewhere.

I'm assuming this is a one off. Clear your cookies and/or PHP session
cache.
