creating buffer without yy_scan_string ?

Hi,
after creating a buffer with yy_create_buffer is there a possibility to fill
the buffer ? I only want the yy_current_buffer set with a char* or an
istream*. Before I used the yy_scan_string function but it seems not be
available in the c++ version.
