Introduction

I'm new to binarycloud, un-spoiled to php and a moron to page-design. Let 
me introduce myself. 

I do originate from a Cobol environment. The first part of my career 
(1970) was dedicated to mainframes and codasyl-oriented database systems, 
though mr. Codd was beating the drums already.

I left this field in 1979 in order to develop software for the new micro-
computer range. Of course using Cobol, which was than available from the 
brand new company MicroSoft.

In the course of time I specialized on logistics, aka warehousing and 
distribution. Never threw Cobol aside.
These developed packages were quite successfull, indeed. As a side 
activity a lot of time was spent to keep the software maintainable, and I 
stil favor iterative development in a generative environment.

>From 1996 on I've turned to the Internet and searched for a functional 
framework to embed my applications into (or onto?). The main reason is the 
fact that about 80% of the application code deals with screen-interaction, 
tending to grow.

I've setup some experimental installations on an embedded system 
(openbrick) using Linux, Xitami, Cobol (!) and Perl. They are pretty 
stable. They run a website in full Cobol.

Than, 2003, I got involved with Php. Though I'm used to OO-design (yes, 
that's possible with Cobol), I read nowadays the very fantastic lyrics 
about software development with Php and OO. I'm not very used with the 
terms, but I try hard.

Well, that's it. I'm running now some cms-portals in php and wrote some 
plugins for that. Maybe I get a bit reckless by now.

I see a whole lot of similarities in the design of (php-)software, though 
the discussions have a complete different viewpoint. Sometimes I do not 
understand the terms and/or the supposed implications of a setup (design).
However, the principles and patterns are clear and deja-vu.

Anyway, I would like to join bc and I hope sometime to be able to 
contribute.
