Sorry, I overread this in your draft. Why did you not comment this in my
draft (long version)? It is not there in the "long" version and since
the short version was not very detailed, it was pretty useless trying to
implement it.

I think we should *not* have both versions - just one: It would lead to
confusion. Backwards support is not an argument in my opinion since we
have no stable release. Having absolute paths is more "natural" in my
opinion.
