ah, got it.

forgot that error reporting was set in Common.php, set it to E_ALL and I =
see a mysql error now, which is good - though it is a bit disturbing that=
 the thing just eats it if it can't connect to the DB, heh.

Anyway I have plenty to go on now, thanks for the help.
