In math, a vector is a 1D array of coordinates, representing a magnitude and a direction. std::vector is already poorly named, since it doesn't provide any of the mathematical operations of a real vector, but does at least keep the core concepts: it is an array, and it is 1D. A 2D array in math is a matrix, not a vector.
