Some years ago, when I tried to use the newest versions, it didn't work.

I'm still using docbookXML version 42 dated 2002 and Docbook_xsl_1._70_1 from 2006 and they work OK
for me.

Would it be sensible if we had a 'known good' set of files in sandbox or somewhere?

All this setup can waste a lot of time (and put people off using the toolchain).
