The way I read this question, it is about choice of color, in
particular choosing colors that are perceptually different. Using CIE
Lab and the euclidian distance there (delta E) for choosing the colors
would be different from doing the blending of AA or other computation
on the colors. (sticking strictly to maximising the perceived
differences would however not contribute to getting a pleasant color
scheme.
