PDF Clipping-Problem BUG? (resend)

Hello. (resent since the last one got, I think, lost in quarantine. It included a PNG, now removed)

I suspect that the "bug" reported for 1.12.2:

might still be alive and crawling.

I've attached the input PDF, its trace that shows how a number of characters get clipped. Looking closer it seems that the font bounding boxes are being used to hinder overflow visibility despite explicitly wanting it. Why are they needed-- or why were these introduced?

I tested it with the newest (via git) Cairo, Pixman and (even) Freetype using pdftocairo (Poppler) to handle PDF parsing etc.

With PNG a number of characters get clipped. Looking the SVG I see different characters being clipped but clipped none-the-less.
