The documentation for cairo_mesh_pattern_set_control_point <http://cairographics.org/manual/cairo-cairo-pattern-t.html#cairo-mesh-pattern-set-control-point> talks about “internal” control points. In fact, the positions of these points do not have to be “internal” to anything at all.
