Would it be possible to add at least a test for color emoji in the cairo
test suite before releasing?
As I mentioned it in the other thread, I have one for the Quartz font
backend:

(in the source you can see that I was wondering what should be done to make
the test work on other backends, too)

That branch has not yet been merged, but I would gladly modify it as needed
for the new font API if we had the ability to test that the color emoji are
working correctly cross-backend.
