FXTextField on Mac

The text in a FXTextField is not visible on my Mac version.
Everything works fine on Windows and Linux. The text is there, I
can see it if I highlight the textfield. I tried explicitly
setting the text color to black but this does not help. If I
change from a FXTextField to FXText it works fine (I can see the
text) but causes other problem for me.

 

I'm using Fox v1.7.50 and XQuartz v2.8.2
