Good morning,

Thank you for looking at it.  After further testing I can get it to 
crash with a PC with an NVIDIA GT710.  On my computer with just the 
onboard graphics it just moves along without crashing, but, as you said, 
doesn't work properly and doesn't generate a core dump. In any event, 
it's definitely something in a recent update as it used to work just 
fine on the same PC.  I've since discovered debuginfod and will try my 
best to head into the call stack.  I will email back if I find a solution.

Also, I didn't realize just how much of our software relies on pick() 
until it all became inaccessible!  :)
